Chapter 54 Our Role Models
Chapter 54 Our Role Models
Owen led You Che and his companion to the town's tavern and reserved a small private room for them.
However, although it was a private room, the environment wasn't very good; it wasn't much better than the one Youche had visited in the slums before.
Fortunately, they didn't seem to care about that.
After they came in, the bartender brought You Che and Qing Ling each a regular beer, which seemed to be the minimum charge. You Che glanced at it but didn't touch it, and said directly:
"So, shall we go first or I?"
Irving paused slightly before saying, "Indeed, sir, you don't like nonsense, so I'll get straight to the point."
He looked up and said, "Sir, are you trying to enter the labyrinth but encountering problems with your adventurer certification?"
You Che raised an eyebrow: "Oh? How did you know?"
Owen put on his usual smiling face again: "Don't overthink it. It's just that many people who come here encounter this problem. It's very common, after all, this maze requires E-rank adventurer certification."
"Also, I noticed you shortly after you two entered the town, so I went to ask the two adventurers who came with you."
You Che looked at him with some surprise: "You're really observant. Looks like you've learned your lesson."
"But now you see, I'm only at level 7. Haven't you considered that even if you help me, I might not be able to give you anything in return?"
Owen's smile widened even further: "You're joking. I've personally witnessed how easily you dealt with the dark race beasts. Obviously, the level difference might be a problem for others, but it's not an issue for you at all."
"If you can't even do what I'm asking you to do, then I doubt those useless level 11 or 12 adventurers can do it either."
You Che chuckled: "You seem to have a lot of faith in me, so I'll be frank then."
"My own adventurer certification is only F-rank, but that's easy to fix. However, my companion doesn't have an adventurer certification, and for some reason, she can't apply for it herself."
You Che looked at Owen and said, "Since you've already guessed it, can you help me solve this problem?"
Irving gave him a confident smile: "Don't worry! Leave this to me!"
"Don't rush." You Che raised his hand. "Tell me your conditions, and I'll consider whether I should ask you for help."
"Hehe, you don't need to worry about that." Owen waved his hand. "All I want is for you to help me gather a special ingredient when you enter the maze."
"If you promise to bring back ten copies for me, then the deal is done!"
Yu Che then asked, "If it's just gathering materials, can't other adventurers do that too?"
Owen said, "You don't know this, but that material is a specialty of this maze. The yield is very low, and it's quite difficult to obtain."
"I don't trust anyone but adventurers like yourself!"
Hearing him say this with such certainty, You Che was at a loss for words.
It seems that after the last incident, he finally realized the problem, but it also seems that he has gone to some extremes...
Putting everything else aside, there are probably not many experienced adventurers of Yu's caliber even if you searched the entire Western Kingdom. Owen's standard for him is obviously too high.
However, putting things one thing at a time, Irving's suggestion is still quite worthwhile.
If you don't go through his channel, Youche will have to find underground NPCs and complete several related quests to get an adventurer certification that can bypass the guild's review process, which is quite troublesome.
Since Irving is so confident that he has a way to solve this, let's leave it to him.
As for the materials that Irving wanted to collect, although he didn't mention their names, You Che had already guessed most of them.
It is produced in Watcher's Fortress, but the drop rate is low and it is difficult to obtain. There is basically only one possibility.
So You Che finally nodded and said, "Okay, I accept this condition."
Irving was overjoyed: "Great! As for the materials I want..."
"'Echoing Crystal,' right?" Yu Che smiled, revealing the name in advance.
Without the slightest hesitation, Irving's facial features instantly transformed into one of admiration: "As expected of you, you guessed it right away! That gives me even more confidence!"
You Che looked at the sly merchant and found it somewhat amusing: "Alright, you don't need to keep flattering me. I'll stay at the inn for now and take on some quests outside the dungeon to level up. Once you get your adventurer certification, come find me."
Irving nodded: "Don't worry, leave it to me!"
"Then we'll be going now."
Yu Che wasn't going to waste any time and was about to accept the mission, but Owen added, "Please wait a moment, I need some basic information about your companion... uh?"
As he spoke, he naturally looked at Qingling, but then paused in surprise.
Qingling was holding her glass of beer in both hands and had already gulped it down.
That wasn't all. After finishing her drink, her eyes lit up, and she looked at the cup in front of You Che, reaching out to take it.
You Che: "..."
He initially intended to move the cup away, but then realized it wasn't necessary, so he handed it to Qingling instead. He then took a piece of paper from his bag, quickly scribbled a few lines, and handed it to Owen:
"Her name is Qingling, level 6, an elf. That's enough to know, right?"
"That's enough, that's enough."
Irving nodded repeatedly, but his eyes darted between You Che and Qing Ling a few times before he revealed a familiar look of sudden realization.
"...Oh! So this is the one who was with you before..."
"No." You Che's face darkened. "By the standards of an elf's age, she's still a child. Don't give me that nonsense."
After changing her equipment, Qingling's appearance could indeed blend into the crowd, but her personality would definitely give her away when she interacted with people.
Therefore, Yu Che gave her the setting of "young elf", which makes it easier to explain.
Upon hearing You Che's denial, Owen immediately switched back to a tacit agreement: "Yes, yes, you're right."
Although he kept quiet, judging from his shifty eyes, he still believed his guess was correct.
You Che's lips twitched, too lazy to explain further. This guy was fine in other ways, but he always liked to make strange connections.
"Then I'll wait for your good news."
After Qingling finished her second beer in big gulps, You Che pulled her up and left the small room.
"Please take care!"
Irving waved from behind, and only after they were out of sight did he nod, stroke his chin, and mutter to himself:
"To think you could abduct such a young elf... Sir, you are truly a role model for us all!"
In other words, You Che had already gone far away and couldn't hear his speech anymore, otherwise Bao would have found a mage who knew electric magic to treat Owen.
Fifteen minutes later, You Che had led Qing Ling to one of the two largest hotels in town and rented a regular double room.
Although there's no muddy ground to dig holes like when we camped before, the town's magic concentration is much higher than outside, which Qingling can adapt to.
Ultimately, the reason she habitually sleeps half-buried is because she can better absorb and restore magic through the soil.
Seeing Qingling running around the room again, touching and looking at everything, You Che just smiled.
Come to think of it, this girl had drunk two large glasses of beer earlier, but it didn't seem to have any effect on her at all.
"We'll stay here for now," You Che said. "I need to go to the guild to pick up some quests. You..."
Before he could finish speaking, Qingling ran back to his side and grabbed his sleeve.
You Che wasn't surprised and casually patted her head: "Then let's go."
