Chapter 4: Formal Wizards, Mortals Must Not Look Them in the Eye
Chapter 4: Formal Wizards, Mortals Must Not Look Them in the Eye
Sally glanced at Nova first, then, as if afraid he would object, quickly extended her hand and said, "Welcome to our 'Esmond' Gathering. I am Sally, the teaching assistant of the Esmond Gathering."
Under Sally's expectant gaze, Leo took her small hand and said, "My name is Leo Danville, Wizard Sally."
Sally smiled after confirming Leo's addition.
Then, Sally turned to Nova and said, "Senior Nova, thank you for bringing such an excellent young wizard as Danville to our Esmond Gathering."
Nova said, "It's alright, my Nova Gathering already has enough people. However, it is indeed a pity to see a wizarding budding talent with level 3 mental strength talent miss out on the path of wizarding, which is why I recommended Danville to your Esmond Gathering."
"Danville..." Nova turned to look at Leo and said, "In the wizarding world, we follow the principle of equivalent exchange."
"I'm helping you today because of your innate spiritual talent, and also because it's an investment in your future as a wizard. So please remember, you owe me a favor."
When Nova said this, his affable smile vanished, and he spoke seriously.
Leo said, "Yes, Lord Nova, I will remember your help today."
Nova nodded slightly and said, "Although it was a coincidence, it's definitely a very good result for you to be able to join the Esmond Gathering."
"Sally, Danville not only has a level 3 talent in mental power, but also has a certain talent in potion-making."
Upon hearing that Leo had a talent for potion-making, Sally's face showed a strange expression, but she didn't take it seriously.
Sally could tell that Leo was a Protoss, and Protoss excelled in combat, while potion-making was not their forte.
"May your journey in the Tower of Dawn be successful, Danville."
Leo watched Nova's departing figure, his thoughts drifting.
This polite, seemingly aloof wizard, who actually treated everyone around him with equality, left a deep impression on Leo.
This gives Leo courage; this is the image that a superhuman being, who stands above ordinary people, should have.
Sally watched Nova's departing figure and said, "Danville, Senior Nova is a very powerful wizard. Even Instructor Esmond praises him highly. He's currently the closest person in the entire Tower of Dawn to becoming a formal wizard. You owe him a favor, and I doubt you'll be able to repay it easily."
Leo asked, "Witch Sally, what is a formal wizard?"
"You'll find out later," Sally said. "Please wait here for a moment while I go register the people."
After Sally left, a wizard sapling approached Leo and said, "Hello, my name is Dean Chris."
"He is a fisherman from the countdom of the Socratic Empire."
Chris was the tallest among the young wizards, standing at 1.9 meters, but he was still somewhat inferior to Leo, a Protoss.
Standing in front of Leo, he was shorter than Leo.
Chris had dark skin and thick, calloused hands.
Leo grasped Chris's hand and said, "Hello, my name is Leo Danville, and I used to be a mercenary warrior in the Earl's territory."
Chris looked up at Leo and said, "I've seen Protoss people before, you're all so tall."
Leo said, "I'm not considered tall among the Pros."
Chris then greeted the others one by one.
Chris's initiative in greeting everyone livened up the atmosphere.
A young girl said, "My name is Jasmine, and my father is a jewel merchant. This is the first time I've ever seen a Pros, Danville. You are so tall."
"My name is John, and my father is the Earl of Avel in Socrates," said a young man exuding aristocratic air.
Jasmine said enviously, "He's actually the Earl's child."
Chris exclaimed in surprise, "John, you're actually the Earl's son? That's astonishing! I never imagined I'd be classmates with the Earl's child!"
A hint of smugness appeared on John's face.
At this moment, the last young man, who had not yet introduced himself, said, "So what if you are a nobleman? In the Tower of Dawn, even if you are a prince, you can only bow your head before a wizard."
John was displeased by the young man's words, and he said, "You're wrong. As nobles, we are better at learning than ordinary commoner wizards, and we have a higher probability of becoming wizards."
The young man said coldly, "Whether one can become a wizard is not determined by status or upbringing, which are irrelevant things, but by spiritual talent. You and I both have level 2 spiritual talent, which is the most common aptitude in the Tower of Dawn."
Chris said, "Alright, you two stop arguing. Now that we've joined the same wizarding association, we're in the same boat from now on."
John ignored Chris's advice, looked at the young man, and said, "You deny the importance of identity. It seems your family must be very ordinary, or even poor."
John spoke with sarcasm.
The young man was not angry upon hearing this, but simply said, "My name is Sono, and as for my identity, it is meaningless here."
The atmosphere became increasingly tense as Sono and John continued their conversation.
Just then, the sky suddenly went dark.
Leo looked up.
A dragon-like creature with three enormous dragon heads and a body several hundred meters tall slowly descended from the sky onto the port area.
At this moment, the argument between John and Sono became meaningless.
All eyes were on this enormous creature.
Chris swallowed hard and said, "The biggest fish I've ever seen is probably not even an appetizer compared to this monster."
"Look, there are people on that monster," John said in surprise.
At the center of the monster's head stood a man in a white robe, his gaze sweeping slightly over the surroundings.
When Leo and the others met his gaze, they felt a sense of discomfort and oppression throughout their bodies.
Jasmine even started dry heaving.
Just then, Sally's gentle voice rang out: "Quickly lower your heads and don't look at him."
Upon hearing Sally's words, Leo and the others quickly lowered their heads, avoiding looking at the monster.
After shifting his gaze, Leo clearly felt the abnormality on his body disappear.
Sally had returned sometime earlier. She looked up at the departing monster and said, "I didn't expect the Central Region to send out a formal wizard. It seems that a rare level 6 mental talent has emerged among this year's wizard budding."
"Alright, they've left. You can hold your heads up now."
Leo and the others looked up again, and Chris said with lingering fear, "Witch Sally, who was that person just now...?"
"He's a certified wizard," Sally explained. "Certified wizards are the highest-ranking wizards in the Tower of Dawn. They usually reside in the central area and only leave it under very rare special circumstances. Certified wizards possess strong spiritual radiation, and even unintentionally, their radiation can have a severe impact on the surrounding environment."
"When you encounter a formal wizard, even one who is already a wizard, it is best to keep your head down and avoid eye contact."
"There is a saying in the wizarding world: the gaze of a formal wizard is like the eye of death."
