Chapter 112 Initial G
Chapter 112 Initial G
"Meow—"
Under the moonlight, a herd of beasts chased after a giant goat.
Two short people, one big and one small, were bouncing on the sheep's back, their upper teeth colliding with their lower teeth, almost causing a concussion.
"Dududulin, what's wrong with you? Where did you run off to?!"
"I...I went to adjust the crossbow, and in the blink of an eye I saw someone below, no...no...I didn't dare make a sound...Ouch, I bit my tongue, it hurts!"
This dwarf is quite good at hiding... Luckily he's not dead, otherwise all that work would have been for nothing.
However, it's too early to say that he's not dead...
Gebu grabbed the goat's horns and spurred it along the road as it fled. He quickly turned his head and saw several pairs of eyes gleaming eerily in the darkness, closely following the goat's rump.
The shadowy figures blurred, and sharp claws scraped across the gravel, making a rapid, grinding sound.
Horrible! Absolutely terrifying! Those beastmen are incredibly fast!
Geb wanted to turn around and cast a greasy spell or a gravity amplification spell to slow down the pursuers—but he only had this one spell slot left, and he couldn't bear to use it unless it was absolutely necessary.
Giant goats are pack animals known for their load-bearing capacity and endurance (similar to their dwarf masters), but their explosive power is far inferior to that of horses. Gebu urged the goat on while poking its ribs with the tip of his shoe—and even so, the voice behind him kept getting closer.
We need to think of some solutions... What can we do?
"Dulin! What was that that exploded in the campfire just now?!" Geb suddenly remembered the scene and asked anxiously.
"It's an explosive crossbow bolt—and it's still a prototype, so it's unstable!"
"I don't care if you're stable or not, I'll shoot Magnubier!"
Upon hearing the order, Dulin hurriedly began loading the crossbow with arrows—but the crossbow was enormous, and the dwarf on the giant goat was sweating profusely from the jostling.
"Hurry, hurry!"
Seeing the dwarf's dawdling, Gebu became increasingly annoyed. He turned halfway around, gripping the front of the crossbow with one hand, while the dwarf turned the dial with both hands. Working together, they finally loaded the crossbow. Seeing that it was done, Gebu quickly focused his attention back on driving the goat—this fellow was incredibly stubborn, veering into the ditch if he wasn't held tight for a moment. The halfling remembered the loud bang from the campfire explosion and, afraid of startling the goat, leaned down and slapped it on the neck, covering its ears with both hands—
One,
two,
……
"Shoot! Shoot!" Geb yelled at the dwarf behind him. He turned around and saw the dwarf, with a goat between his legs, struggling to turn and aim—the guy's waist was so stiff that he could only turn ninety degrees at most! He couldn't see what was behind him at all!
Utter trash! Absolutely utterly trash!
As the beastmen behind them drew ever closer, they crouched low and ran on all fours like wild beasts, hot breath billowing from their nostrils—the leader, the half-deer man Soton, held his long curved sword in reverse, resting it on his forearm, the blade gleaming with a pale moonlight.
The halfling's mind raced—he saw a U-shaped bend in the road ahead, then spiraled uphill.
No firing angle? I'll give you a firing angle!
That's the only option we can use!
Approaching the corner rapidly, Gebu grabbed the goat's neck by the skin, then bounced up and landed sideways beside the goat, his entire weight pulling inwards towards the bend—
The goat howled in pain as it was pulled, stepped into the roadside ditch, tilted its body at a 45-degree angle, and slid sideways across the bend!
The lamb hooves are smoking!
Initial G (Gebu), drifting through the ditch!
The goat turned, the dwarf raised his crossbow, and Geb guided the target into his scope. Without hesitation, Dulin pulled the trigger, the string snapped open, and the red-tipped bolt flew out!
call out!
The half-deer didn't even flinch; the crossbow bolt was fired too low, wildly off course, and didn't even touch the pursuers, only hitting the floor in front of the beastman.
That's right!
boom! ! !
The moment the red head hit the road, it sparked a bright yellow flame, and then exploded instantly!
Thorton and the two beastmen running ahead had no time to react. They were thrown aside by the impact and crashed into the uphill cliff!
"The golden beard of the Stone Ancestor!" Dulin was startled by his own invention, staring incredulously at the crossbow in his hand.
"Well done, Dulin! Again!" Geb cheered!
Encouraged, Dulin felt even stronger on the upper rank. The goat turned its horn and began climbing the winding mountain road—the beastmen realized something and stopped foolishly chasing after it in a straight line, instead cutting straight up the hillside!
"Shoot! Dwarf! Shoot now!"
"Too many! Who should we shoot?"
Upon seeing this, Gebu saw that the beastmen had broken their formation and were using the scattered bushes and stones on the hillside to hide themselves, leaping and bounding about, no longer giving the dwarves a chance to injure each other.
"Ahead! Ahead!"
Gebu shouted, and a beastman cut in front of the goat, charging straight at it!
The dwarf raised his crossbow to fire when a yellow figure suddenly leaped out of the bushes from his side! The weasel's claws pierced Dulin's thigh, and he howled in pain, swinging his crossbow at the beastman as a melee weapon!
The creature, however, had already jumped away, disappearing into the roadside rocks and running parallel to the goat.
At this moment, the beastman blocking the way pounced forward—Gebu raised his hand and fired a fire arrow, blasting him in the face! This clever guy who took the shortcut was knocked to the ground. Just as he was about to get up, the giant goat stubbornly nudged him with its forehead and roared as it sent him flying.
Having resolved the immediate problem, Gebu looked up at the road ahead. Even if he were to run away, he needed a goal!
By the moonlight, Gebu saw a large river not far ahead, with an old wooden bridge spanning the rushing water. On the other side of the river, a few hundred meters away, the outline of a stone tower was faintly visible, with lights shining from its windows.
Guard the tower! You'll be safe there!
With a goal in mind, Gebu's hope was rekindled. He spurred his horse on and ran forward at breakneck speed.
We're getting closer! We'll be crossing the bridge soon!
Geb turned around excitedly and said to the dwarf.
"Almost there! We'll be safe soon... Dulin?"
Geb stared in astonishment at the dwarf's face—he was covered in sweat, gritting his teeth, his eyes filled with worry and fear.
Dulin had the crossbow slung over his shoulder in one hand and the other on his leg: black blood soaked his lower body.
"Gebu...can I still hold on?"
"Huh?! What's wrong with you?"
What happened? It was just a scratch...you...
Magnubie, what a huge wound!
The dwarf loosened his grip slightly, revealing the wound: the weasel had ripped a chunk of flesh from his outer thigh, leaving a palm-sized crater where the torn muscle fibers twitched in agony and blood gushed uncontrollably.
Geb was instantly frantic—in Lady Peacock's basement, the face that was gradually losing its color suddenly overlapped with the dwarf in front of him.
"I won't die! I have medicine! Hang in there, I'll give it to you once I get across the bridge..."
Gebu turned his head and saw Soton, with two beastmen, rushing to the riverbank and climbing towards the wooden bridge by gripping the cracks in the rocks—once they climbed up, their escape route would be completely cut off!
