Chapter 138 Compensation Matters
Chapter 138 Compensation Matters
In the conference room of the Hokage Building.
The heavy curtains were drawn tightly shut, blocking out the glaring midday sun and leaving only a depressing gloom.
At the end of the long table, the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, sat expressionless, without his usual amiable smile.
The lineup in the conference room was truly impressive.
On the left sat two advisors and two of the Legendary Sannin—Orochimaru, whose golden pupils held a cold glint in his eyes; Tsunade stood with her arms crossed and her brows furrowed, clearly still angry.
On the right are Police Force Chief Fugaku Uchiha, Anbu Commander-in-Chief Sakumo Hatake, and Jonin Squad Leader Shikaku Nara.
Standing in the middle giving the report were the two parties involved in this incident: Minato Namikaze and Tetsu Nishikawa.
"The mountain tribes have just finished reading the brains of these individuals."
Nara Shikanobu broke the silence, pushing a report still smelling of ink onto the center of the table. His eyes, however, were unusually clear at that moment.
"The evidence is conclusive. This is an order directly issued by the high-ranking officials of Kumogakure, targeting the surviving members of the Uzumaki clan."
"Bang!"
Tsunade slammed her fist on the table, and the corner of the hard solid wood table cracked instantly.
"Damn it! Kidnapping during the signing of a peace trade agreement? Does that old Raikage have no shame?"
"Calm down, Tsunade."
Xiaochun, who was turning over to her new dorm, frowned and pushed up her glasses.
Although her expression was also grim, she still said, "While Cloud Village is in the wrong in this matter, a trade agreement has just been signed. If this isn't handled properly, it could lead to the agreement being torn up, or even triggering a major war. Cloud Village's militant faction has always been very arrogant. Shouldn't we first issue a strongly worded protest letter, and then..."
"And then what? Protest? Condemn? Or just release them and pretend nothing happened?"
Nishikawa Tetsu suddenly spoke, his voice calm, but he directly interrupted the advisor.
He stood beside the water gate, his posture upright, showing no sign of backing down despite the fact that the other party was a high-ranking official.
"Advisor Koharu, this time the kidnapped individuals are not only orphans of the Uzumaki clan, but also members of Lady Mito's clan, and... that special identity."
Nishikawa Tetsu deliberately emphasized the last few words. Although he did not explicitly state Kushina's identity, everyone present was a core member of the leadership and knew perfectly well what was going on.
His gaze swept over everyone present: "If we tolerate this kind of behavior that tramples on Konoha's face, then next time, can they just come to the Hokage Building and 'borrow' the Scroll of Sealing Seals for a couple of days of research?"
"But..." Mitokado Homura frowned, "The village has just recovered and the finances have improved, but do we really want to start a war with Kumogakure at this critical juncture? You know the Raikage's temper; he's a warmonger."
"Go to war?"
Orochimaru, who had been silent all along, let out a hoarse chuckle.
He stuck out his long tongue and licked his lips, his golden vertical pupils flashing with contempt.
"Advisors, haven't you two been staying in this building for too long?"
Orochimaru pointed at Nishikawa Toru and Minato, then pointed at himself.
"The current Konoha has me, Tsunade, the White Fang of Konoha, the Shura of Konoha, and these two little monsters who are growing up. We can equip ourselves with the latest electromagnetic cannons, and our warehouses are full of spare batteries. And what about Kumogakure?"
Orochimaru sneered, "It's undeniable that Kumogakure has developed very well in recent years, with rapid economic growth; but in terms of high-end combat power, we are the clear winner; in terms of technology, we are overwhelming."
"In this situation, why should we be afraid of them starting a war?"
"Well said."
Although Fugaku Uchiha was somewhat annoyed by Orochimaru's words about the "Shura of Konoha," he agreed with them. He placed his hands on his knees, radiating an undeniable aura of power.
"We are ready. If Yunyin wants to fight, Heian Co., Ltd. is willing to undertake the task of transporting supplies to the front line free of charge."
Nara Kazuno added, "We have the absolute moral advantage."
A brief silence fell over the meeting room.
All eyes were focused on Hiruzen Sarutobi, who was in the main seat.
Given this dove-like approach, for the sake of the bigger picture, he often chooses to appease the situation and minimize the impact of major issues.
I don't know if it was what I said earlier that gave the Third Generation confidence, or if it was Mito-sama's notification that had an effect.
Hiruzen Sarutobi tapped his pipe and emptied out the ashes.
He raised his head, and in his somewhat cloudy old eyes, a long-lost flame was burning.
"Koharu, Yan."
The third generation's voice was not loud, but exceptionally calm.
"You've gotten old, and so have I. As people get older, they tend to become timid and hesitant. I used to always think about finding a balance and compromising."
He stood up, walked to the window, and looked out at the bustling streets and the scientific research institute.
"But the Konoha of today is not the Konoha of the past. We no longer need to compromise and appease in exchange for peace. These children..."
The Third Hokage turned around and looked at Nishikawa Toru and Minato with kind eyes.
"They have already straightened their backs, and as the Hokage, I cannot let them bend them down."
"Peace is not something you beg for; it is something you fight for, and it is something you negotiate for—but the prerequisite is that you have power in your hands."
"Pass on my orders!"
The Third Hokage's chakra aura suddenly erupted, displaying the domineering presence of a ninja hero.
"Detain all Cloud Village prisoners and lock them in the torture chamber. No one is allowed to visit them without my order."
"Notify the border troops to enter a state of high alert. Hatake Sakumo, you will personally go to the border to oversee operations. If Kumogakure dares to cross the line, execute them without seeking permission!"
"Yes!" Sakumo's eyes sharpened as he accepted the order.
"As for the Raikage..."
The third generation looked at Nishikawa Tetsuya, a smile appearing on his lips.
"Nishikawa Tetsuya, aren't you good at accounting? Draw me a list of compensation."
Nishikawa Tetsu's eyes lit up, and he immediately pulled out his notebook and calculator from his pocket.
"It's all ready, Hokage-sama."
"Compensation for emotional distress, lost wages, security and duty expenses, medical expenses, search and rescue expenses, and... research delays caused by 'inspiration drought' due to shock."
Nishikawa Tetsu frantically pressed the calculator buttons, finally announcing a number: "A total of five hundred million taels. If it's even one tael less, we'll cut out the tongues of these prisoners and send them back."
"Five...five hundred million?!"
Koharu Utatane nearly dropped her glasses: "This is even higher than the previous trade volume. The Raikage's temper will drive him crazy..."
Nishikawa Tetsuya was still not satisfied and continued, "Not only that, but from now on, products imported from Konoha will be subject to additional taxes. If they have the ability, let them develop their own. Anyway, we don't lack buyers."
This young man is too ruthless! Koharu Utatane is only now realizing that she is indeed old and can't keep up with the ideas of young people at all. Isn't this obviously a prelude to war?
"it is good."
The Third Hokage made the final decision.
"That's it. Send a notice to Kumogakure demanding compensation. Tell the Raikage that Konoha loves peace, but is absolutely not afraid of war."
"If he wants to fight, we'll fight him to the bitter end."
"Meeting adjourned!"
The group filed out, and in the corridor, Nishikawa Tetsu and Minato walked side by side.
"Five hundred million taels... You really dare to ask for that much." Minato said with a helpless smile.
Nishikawa Tetsu put away the calculator, his eyes clear.
"This time, money is secondary. What's important is that we stood tall."
"A weak nation has no diplomacy, but justice shines when faced with power."
Nishikawa Toru glanced at the Hokage Rock outside the window.
"It seems that the Third Generation Lord is not senile yet."
"yes."
Minato touched the Flying Thunder God kunai in his ninja tool pouch and remembered the red-haired girl.
"As long as you are strong enough, no one will dare to extend their claws again."
