Chapter 1226 - 1215: Refusing to Be Stifled
Chapter 1226 - 1215: Refusing to Be Stifled
Gu Xiaotong’s tone was too arrogant, so as soon as she spoke, many people around immediately started pointing and whispering, making Xie Lizzi’s face darken.
"Watch your mouth, be careful," she reprimanded in a low voice.
Gu Xiaotong’s face turned blue, white, and then red. Who was she doing all this for? Didn’t Xie Lizzi used to tacitly agree? But she didn’t dare to blame Xie Lizzi for this embarrassment, so she disliked Ye Qiu even more.
"What I mean is you don’t know your own worth; Lizi is kindly doing this for your own good, yet you don’t appreciate it. It’s no wonder everyone dislikes you. There’s no point trying to set me up. Don’t you know what kind of reputation you have? Do you have a single friend? Any classmates that are close to you at school? If one person dislikes you, it could be their problem, but if everyone distances themselves from you, maybe you should consider your own issues." Gu Xiaotong shifted the topic, standing on a moral high ground, making Ye Qiu seem worthless, while making themselves appear noble and kind-hearted.
This tactic worked very well. Most people are easily influenced by others’ words, and since it had nothing to do with them, they’d be happy to watch a good show.
"Ye Qiu, I know you’re very proud, but the society is not as simple as you imagine. So what if you have good grades? If you can’t build good relationships with people, and instinctively think they’re out to harm you, that’s no way to go." Xie Lizzi feigned seriousness but her gaze at Ye Qiu was full of provocation.
"Having good grades certainly has its benefits. At least when someone uses money to take a spot, the professor would still recall me out of pity for talent." Ye Qiu looked at her fearlessly, the words instantly changing Xie Lizzi’s expression.
"What do you mean?" She asked sharply.
"I mean Professor An invited me to join his research group and be his student."
"That’s impossible, your parents clearly promised me." Xie Lizzi said agitatedly.
"You mean you bribed my adoptive parents to stop me from working in mechanics, and you foolishly believed you could buy off my entire life with money? Though I was adopted and not favored, I’m still nominally their daughter. Do you think ruining my life would benefit their reputation, or would it be better to take your money, deceive you, and let me continue my career?"
"Dare you deceive me?" Xie Lizzi was now thoroughly enraged, her gaze even scared Gu Xiaotong.
"If Lady Xie dares to threaten me, why shouldn’t I dare to deceive you?"
"I’ll make you pay for this."
"Oh, I’m so scared. Do you plan to sue me? It’s useless. The money was taken by my adoptive parents, I wasn’t aware beforehand. If you want to sue my adoptive parents, that won’t work either. Think about your reason for giving money. Do you think the police and judge would ignore it?" Ye Qiu remained fearless.
Xie Lizzi coldly snorted: "Why bother? If I want to deal with you, are there no other ways? Don’t forget how you spent your four years in college."
"It’s already useless; my thesis is approved, all my grades are excellent, and I’ve also received my internship certificate. You can’t stop me from getting my diploma. Once I join Professor An’s research group, you’ll have even less power over me. Teaming up with other classmates to isolate me? Professor An’s students aren’t the same as your previous lackeys, don’t overestimate yourself."
Ye Qiu’s expression and tone were truly irritating, causing Xie Lizzi to breathe heavily, and glared at her as if wanting to devour her.
"Oh, and don’t even think about doing anything where I live, because my landlord is Professor An. If you dare act under his nose, do you think he’ll let you turn official later? Allow you to access core research again?" Ye Qiu dared to continue adding fuel to the fire.
"You turned out clever, I truly underestimated you before. I can’t move against you yet, but I can’t move against your family? Dare deceive me, I’ll let you know the consequences." Xie Lizzi threatened coldly and then looked at Gu Xiaotong and said, "Let’s go."
"Hmph, you’ll regret this." Gu Xiaotong glared back while walking away.
After they left, Ye Qiu almost burst out laughing, it would be best if Xie Lizzi made a move, she wasn’t willing to waste time on it! However, once Xie Lizzi retaliates, her adoptive mother will surely come to stir trouble again.
Ye Qiu was quite speechless regarding her original body’s adoptive family. You couldn’t have children back in the day and wanted to adopt one to maintain family affection. Yet if you adopt, you should treat her sincerely. Once you have a biological daughter, you see the adopted child as a burden and freeloader. Is this moral?
Nicely put, giving an adopted daughter a home, but in reality? Have you given her any care? Is that home truly a home to her and not a cold-hearted exploiting factory?
Over these years, the original body did a lot of work at home, did you ever praise her?
Yet, you still consider yourselves noble, and publicly claim you’ve raised an adopted daughter who studies in a prestigious university.
But the truth? If not for the frequent visits by government workers, the original body might not have even graduated junior high. If not for the teacher’s visit and the shame felt by your guidance criticism during high school, and the original body winning scholarships and working student jobs to bring home money, she wouldn’t have continued her education.
As for college, it was only because the original body was already an adult that you couldn’t control her stay or departure. But truthfully, were your actions decent? Did you ever genuinely act in original body’s favor?
If not for your selfish couple’s adoption, perhaps the original body could have gone to a better foster family, or even lived in an orphanage happier and freer than with your family.
What a joke about the gratitude for upbringing, what exactly did you give? It was the original body who gave a lot to join your family.
If Ye Qiu initially only wanted to sever ties with her adoptive parents, giving a bit of money to repay the upbringing, but after delving deeper into original body’s childhood matters these days, she grew even more resentful.
Wanting to profit from her? Go eat shit!
As for others’ views, she’s never cared; living comfortably is what matters most.
Moreover, people have eyes to see, you never know who they might side with!
As for those who stand on the moral high ground to criticize, have you done your own duties? Have you, Holy Mother, forgiven those who once hurt you? Have you respected your biological parents?
If not, shut up, and if unwilling, then Holy Mother, you can go respect the adoptive parents in place of the original body. After all, we’re all citizens of the same country. Being so noble, surely you can’t bear them suffering, can you?
