Chapter 15 Discussing the Raid Plan
Chapter 15 Discussing the Raid Plan
How come I have Sarah's hair on my face?
Luo Xu stroked his chin.
He didn't investigate further and began to try to sit up straight.
Although the desertion issue has been resolved, Lantas Village is still surrounded by bandits.
We need to quickly finalize the raid plan with Captain Walter.
Luo Xu slowly sat up and then moved to the edge of the bed.
He proceeded as slowly as possible throughout the process to assess his physical recovery.
After not feeling anything unusual, he got up and walked slowly around the room.
A dull pain suddenly came from his ribs, and Luo Xu quickly lay down.
It seems my body hasn't recovered enough to walk yet, so I'll stay in bed.
"Ding~" Luo Xu pulled the bedside mobile.
"Sir, what can I do for you?" A servant pushed open the door and entered.
"Please invite Walter over for me. Tell him I have something important to discuss with him. Thank you."
"OK."
After the servant left, Luo Xu suddenly noticed that there was an extra book on the bedside table.
The cover is an oak slab covered with dark brown goatskin, embroidered with "The Love of Aserai" in silver thread.
Did Sarah put this there?
Luo Xu hesitated for a moment, but still picked up the book.
Is she afraid of being bored?
At that time, papermaking was not yet widespread, and books were considered a luxury.
Luo Xu smiled slightly and carefully turned to the first page.
"Foreword: Although Aserai is located in the desert, it is quite wealthy because the Aserai people are natural-born merchants..."
The main content of this book is the love story between an Aserai merchant and a lord's woman.
For Luo Xu, the plot was quite melodramatic, but considering that Sarah had given it to him specifically, he still read it carefully.
"Knock knock." There was a sudden knock on the door.
"Please come in." Luo Xu gently closed the book.
"Mr. Luo Xu, Mr. Walter has arrived."
The butler pushed open the door, and Walter strode in.
"Brother Luo Xu, what brings you here?"
"Did those robbers show up today?"
Upon hearing this, Walter's smile vanished.
"They're just watching from a distance, and it's unclear what they're planning to do next. I didn't let anyone leave the village today."
Luo Xu nodded, fully agreeing with his approach.
The relationship between the two deserters and the bandits is still unknown.
If they were planning to join the bandits, the bandits, upon seeing the corpse, would likely retaliate against Lantas Village.
After considering for a while, Luo Xu revealed his entire plan to raid the bandit camp.
"I've thought about it before," Walter said with a wry smile, "but it's too difficult to put into practice."
His thoughts were the same as Luo Xu's.
"Those bandits work in shifts, so it's impossible to sneak out of the village during the day without them noticing. If we're going to operate at night, we have to light torches, otherwise we can't see the road at all, which would give us away immediately."
"What if I could find a camp and lead you there?"
Walter paused for a moment, then shook his head: "Even if you do find the camp, things won't be that simple. Whether there are sentries or traps in the camp is unknown. And once they discover us, it will be almost impossible for us to retreat back to the village in the dark."
Luo Xu fell silent, his brows furrowing deeper and deeper.
The key is how to quickly eliminate the bandits in the camp without being detected by them.
It's impossible for him to do it alone.
The more they discussed it, the more difficult it seemed, and in the end, neither of them spoke again.
"Alright, it seems I was too naive," Luo Xu sighed.
Walter patted him on the shoulder: "You should focus on recovering. Don't worry about these things."
"I'm leaving now." Walter left the room.
Luo Xu stared at the ceiling, his brows still furrowed.
If the raid plan doesn't work, what other good options are there?
After a moment, he rubbed his temples and picked up "The Love of Aserai" to continue reading.
This book is quite exquisite, with an illustration depicting each important plot point.
Suddenly, the sound of a cane hitting the ground rang out at the doorway. Luo Xu's heart skipped a beat, and he looked up expectantly.
"Rossi!" Sarah walked in.
She was completely different from how she was in the morning. Her hair was neatly combed, and she was wearing a new skirt that reached her calves, which perfectly accentuated her shapely figure.
Seeing Luo Xu lost in thought, Sarah pursed her lips, a smug look on her face.
She didn't go to the makeshift bed, but sat on Luo Xu's bed instead.
Luo Xu snapped out of his daze and quickly made room for her to put her injured right foot on the bed.
Luo Xu leaned against the headboard. When Sarah tried to lean back as well, her arm accidentally brushed against his.
The two tacitly agreed to pretend nothing had happened.
"I was worried you'd be bored in bed, so I found you a book to read." She pointed to *The Love of Aserai*. "Where are you now?"
"I'm almost finished reading," Luo Xu said, turning the pages. "The male and female leads have eloped."
Sarah nodded, then suddenly frowned, as if she was thinking about something.
Luo Xu turned to the last page, where the male and female protagonists were gazing at each other affectionately, presumably about to "live happily ever after".
But when his gaze fell on the illustration at the end, he suddenly froze.
The male and female protagonists are kissing, but they are both shirtless.
Sarah snatched "The Love of Aserai" from his hands, a blush spreading from her face to her ears.
For a moment, both of them fell silent.
"I just discussed something with Walter," Luo Xu said, trying to find a topic to break the awkward atmosphere.
"Oh, what is it?" Sarah looked up.
Seeing that the plan was working well, Luo Xu explained his plan to raid the bandit camp.
To his surprise, after listening and thinking for a while, Sarah said, "I think this plan is feasible."
"Why?" Luo Xu became interested and told Walter and his own concerns in detail.
"Haven't you all forgotten something?" Sarah's lips curled into a smile.
"What is it?"
"Those are just robbers, not disciplined soldiers. You're all overestimating the worst."
Luo Xu suddenly froze, without interrupting Sarah.
"I've met all sorts of people in the inn. Most bandits are despicable lazybones; it's impossible to expect them to keep an eye on Lantas village all the time."
"Perhaps they were motivated yesterday, but who knows what will happen today once the initial enthusiasm wears off."
Sarah met Luo Xu's gaze, her eyes full of smugness: "What do you think of my analysis?"
"You're right!" Luo Xu suddenly realized.
Raiding bandit camps is highly profitable, but also very risky.
Both he and Walter wanted to avoid defeat, so they made the same mistake: overestimating their opponent as much as possible.
Therefore, they all assumed that the bandits were a disciplined group before considering their plans.
Just as Sarah said, those robbers were lazy; once the novelty wore off, they would definitely find ways to slack off, and their vigilance would drop drastically.
"Sarah, thank you so much," Luo Xu said excitedly.
If Sarah hadn't reminded him, he would have really given up on the plan.
"If you want to thank me, promise me one thing." Sarah's pretty face, which had just returned to normal, began to blush again.
"I'll agree to anything that's within my capabilities," Luo Xu said with a smile.
They looked at each other, and the atmosphere began to become ambiguous.
"My right foot will probably take a long time to heal, and I'll get really bored being alone in my room." Sarah's voice trailed off, and Luo Xu had to lean closer to hear her. "Could you come over and chat with me more often in the future?"
"I promise you, I'll come to see you every day from now on."
Sarah chuckled at Roseu's words.
She suddenly held up her little finger: "Pinky promise, you can't go back on your word."
Luo Xu was stunned for a moment, not expecting that there was such a thing as a pinky promise in this world.
He hooked his finger around Sarah's little finger: "I will never go back on my word."
