Chapter 208 Necklace
Chapter 208 Necklace
The dinner ended.
While it was Julian's turn to help Karma with the dirty dishes, Karma went outside to have a quick phone call with his friends as they've been calling him for the last ten minutes.
Kiernan, on the other hand, returned back to his room, got seated on his chair, and quickly opened his computer.
'Boarding school of Gaul...'
He quickly typed that into the search bar and started researching.
It was a nice-looking boarding school in the countryside of Gaul. It was far from civilization, surrounded by fields and forests.
There were dormitories, classrooms, and a dining hall for the students. There were also some recreational facilities, such as a gym and a swimming pool.
'It sure looks nice.'
Kiernan leaned back against the chair's backrest, tapped his finger against the wooden desk, and then pressed his forefinger against the desk's polished surface, feeling the smoothness beneath his touch.
Crack...
That small spot in the desk cracked, and then Kiernan stabbed his finger through the desk's surface, creating a jagged hole.
Kiernan looked at his forefinger with a small.
'My condition is much better. I think I can finally unleash my Iron Lance. It was about time. I've been wanting to use my favorite technique.'
Flap! Flap!
At that moment, he heard some strange flapping noises, and then, to his surprise, a small-winged pigeon flew through the window, circling near the ceiling, making turns around the chandelier.
"A pigeon?"
Kiernan stood up, and as the pigeon perched on the chandelier, he noticed the small paper tied to its leg.
'Paper... Nevaeh...'
Kiernan reached out his hand towards Pigeon. It was like he was saying, 'Come on, land on my palm instead,' and the pigeon seemed to understand as it flew down and landed on his palm.
He carefully lifted the small paper tied to its leg, and as soon as he did, the pigeon flew off, but it landed on the windowsill, waiting patiently for him to read the message.
Kiernan went to his bed, sat down with his back against the wall, and unfolded the message to read it.
He would be lying if he said that he wasn't nervous.
It must be a message from his mother.
Kiernan asked from the busy Julian.
"Outside on phone!"
Julian shouted back while trying to scrub off the burnt cheese from the pan.
Kiernan headed out of the front door and saw his father having a phone call, laughing with his friend on the other side of the line.
"Dad, there's something I'd like to ask you."
"Oh?"
Karma raised an eyebrow and turned to look at his serious-looking son. He then quickly finished the phone call with his friend and pocketed his phone.
"What's wrong?"
"When my mother brought me here, and you found me, was there a necklace around my neck? It's how you knew to name me Kiernan, right?"
Karma looked surprised, then his expression softened, and he nodded.
"There was a necklace around your neck, yes."
"Where is it?"
Karma scratched the back of his head, told Kiernan to follow him, and then headed to the attic of their house.
The attic was all dusty with old boxes and cobwebs hanging from the ceiling.
In one of the boxes, there was a baby's basket, a blanket, and an old-looking necklace.
"You came in this basket, wrapped around a blanket, and a necklace around your neck."
Karma said, then picked up the necklace and handed it over to Kiernan.
"Why did you never mention this?"
Kiernan asked as he looked at the necklace in hand. It had his name engraved on it.
"..."
Karma stayed tight-lipped, but he then let out a resigned sigh and said.
"I thought it was better to keep the thoughts of your mother out of your head. She was basically a stranger to both of us, even though she gave birth to you.
"I never expected you to want to go willingly search for your mother. I thought it was best if we just left the past in the past."
When he was done explaining, Kiernan nodded, grabbed the necklace tight, and then headed back to his room to finish the letter.
