Chapter 29 The Mentor's Call
Chapter 29 The Mentor's Call
"What's wrong, Heaton?" Hick asked, his tone softening as he looked at the panting boy.
"Young Master Hick."
Heaton quickly pulled out the bulging package from his arms and carefully handed it over.
"This was specially instructed by the master to be delivered to you personally."
The package was unpacked, revealing shimmering magic crystals inside—the very 500 magic crystals that the Moreno family had sent as a congratulatory gift.
Looking at the five hundred magic crystals, Hick did not refuse; he did need the resources at the moment.
Just thinking about the indifferent attitude of his predecessor towards his family during those three years in the Wizard Tower—almost severing ties and treating his family like dust—made him feel that these "mortals" could no longer understand his world, let alone provide the resources that wizards needed...
A complex and indescribable emotion welled up in Hick's heart, just like how he could only type out his feelings about his unfilial children in his past life.
Thinking of how good his parents were to him, he almost wanted to slap himself.
Forcibly suppressing these turbulent thoughts, Hick turned to Dila, his tone regaining its usual composure:
"Dila, from now on, let the Ryan family take the lead in handling some of the Wizard Tower's routine procurement."
"Understood! I'll make the arrangements as soon as I get back." Dila immediately bowed and accepted the order without the slightest hesitation.
Hick's gaze fell back on Heaton.
This childhood friend still had pure trust and affection in his eyes, which warmed his heart.
In this entirely new world, the cruelty and bloodshed of the wizarding world overwhelmed Hick.
It was this warmth of family that made Hick feel like he was still a person, even though this warmth had little to do with his current self.
"Heathon," he said, looking intently into the boy's eyes.
"Go back and tell my father to start preparations to take over some of the business dealings at the Wizard Tower. Do you understand what I mean?"
"Understood, Master Hick!"
Heaton's eyes lit up instantly, and a wide smile spread across his face:
"I knew it! Young Master Hick has always had Ryan Territory on his mind!"
These words caused a barely perceptible flicker of embarrassment to cross Hick's face. He coughed lightly to cover it up, saying:
"Ahem...it was a bit inconvenient before. But now that I'm with my mentor, things are different, so naturally they can take care of things."
Heaton, oblivious to Hick's unease, remained lost in his excitement.
"I understand! I understand! Young Master Hick is a big shot now! He can do things he couldn't do before!"
At this point, his excited tone suddenly dropped, revealing a hint of undisguised disappointment and inferiority:
"Unfortunately... I have no talent whatsoever and can't be of any help to Young Master Hick..."
Hick's heart stirred slightly. He reached out and patted Heaton's shoulder firmly, the force encouraging: "Taking good care of Father and Mother for me is the greatest help you can give me. Thank you for your hard work, Heaton."
"It's not hard at all! It's not hard at all! The master and mistress treat me like their own son! I..." Heaton hurriedly shook his head, his eyes a little red.
However, Heaton's words had not yet faded—
An elegant, languid, and unhurried voice appeared in Hick's mind:
"Hick, come to me."
That voice belongs to—the mentor!
Hick's expression changed drastically in an instant! His previous gentleness vanished completely, leaving only awe and tension in the face of absolute power.
"Return immediately after the handover! Be careful on the road!"
He spoke rapidly, his words leaving no room for argument. At the same time, he swiftly pulled several vials of different colors from his waist and shoved them into Heaton's hand. "Take these, just in case!"
Before he could finish speaking, Hick's figure had already transformed into a blurry shadow. He activated his magic, propelling himself at a speed far exceeding that of ordinary people as he sped towards the depths of the wizard's tower, his words still echoing in the air.
Heaton stood there, holding the vials of medicine still warm from Hick's body, staring blankly at the powerful yet utterly unfamiliar figure that had vanished in an instant.
A cool breeze swept through the wizard's tower, and Heaton felt a void in his heart.
The young master Hick, who would pat him on the shoulder and speak to him gently, seemed to be just a fleeting moment.
Thinking of Hick from before, and then thinking of Hick from just now, Heaton felt that the current Hick was so unfamiliar, so very unfamiliar.
He looked down at the precious potion in his hand, then gazed in the direction where Hick had disappeared. After a long while, he murmured to himself, his voice so soft it was almost carried away by the wind:
"Young Master Hick like this... is quite nice too."
Hick's heart pounded as he raced through the Wizard Tower. He had thought his mentor would be out of seclusion for at least another ten days, but he never expected it to be so soon. This was something Hick had never anticipated.
"Just what level was the mentor originally at?!"
Although he knew that his mentor was originally a level two wizard, he did not know exactly what level his mentor was among level two wizards.
Level 2 Beginner? Level 2 Intermediate? Or —
Level 2 Advanced!
Thinking of that unrealistic idea in his mind, Hick just laughed. How could that be?
At the end of the familiar passageway, filled with the mixed smells of cold metal and strange potions, lay the laboratory that had nearly terrified him.
The closer he got, the clearer the horrific memories of that day became; it was the first time Hick had ever felt death so close!
The metal door to a cubicle deep inside the laboratory slid open silently, revealing a dim light within.
"Disciple Hick greets Master!"
Hick forcibly suppressed his surging emotions and slight trembling, bowing deeply at the door with utmost respect.
Professor Perot slowly emerged from the inner room, his steps unhurried and rhythmic.
His deep gaze fell on Hick, as if it could penetrate his skin and look straight into his soul.
That gaze was calm and expressionless, yet it contained an indescribable pressure.
"How's the Wizard Tower?"
Pelosi’s voice was flat, devoid of any emotion, as if it were just a casual question.
"Report back to the mentor."
Hick maintained his bowed posture, speaking at a steady pace but with inner tension:
"Since you communicated with the people from the main tower, everything inside the tower has been operating normally and there have been no abnormalities during your seclusion."
Pelosi nodded slightly, seemingly neither surprised nor satisfied with the answer.
His gaze shifted away, as if the affairs within the tower were trivial matters.
"The supply of experimental materials... is it still the same as before?"
The mentor's voice remained calm, yet it made Hick's heart leap into his throat.
"tutor!"
Hick quickly responded, his voice carrying a barely perceptible hint of tension:
"I have strictly ordered the apprentices to carry out the gathering task according to the highest standards. However... the apprentices' strength is ultimately limited, and the quality of the items obtained has not improved much. However, the quantity has increased significantly compared to before."
He carefully chose his words, both expressing his efforts and pointing out the objective limitations, for fear of displeasing his supervisor.
Professor Pelosi casually found a seat and sat down, her tone unchanged.
"Really? What about the mentors?"
