Chapter 12 Common Language of Loran
Chapter 12 Common Language of Loran
Dorothy looked up when she heard that sweet voice.
Then she paused for a moment.
Her golden hair shimmered softly in the sunlight, and she wore exquisite leather armor. Her beautiful face seemed completely out of place in the environment of the Mercenary Guild.
"Ah, I am Dorothy."
Dorothy quickly came to her senses, feeling somewhat surprised.
She had seen this girl before.
The beautiful young woman walked out of the bakery when she first came to this town.
Dorothy was deeply impressed by the other person's beautiful appearance at that time.
I never expected that the other party would take on this task for me.
Judging from her appearance and her attire, this girl is clearly a noblewoman.
They actually accepted this task that only cost five silver coins.
Despite her doubts, Dorothy simply introduced herself.
The girl smiled and said, "I am the mercenary Elor. Starting today, I will teach you various everyday words."
Dorothy nodded.
Elor sat down opposite Dorothy and took out a sand table from his pocket that was clearly too big to fit in the pocket.
This action made Dorothy's eyes widen.
What is this?! Spatial magic? A storage bag?
Elor placed the sand tray on the table and noticed that Dorothy was staring intently at the pocket from which she had just taken the sand tray.
She explained with a smile, "This is spatial storage magic, one of the magic spells that students in the Apprentice City are required to learn."
The City of Apprentices—I heard that name again.
Last time it was a radio, this time it's storage magic.
This further solidified Dorothy's determination to go to the City of Apprentices.
Elor pointed to the sand table on the table and said, "Although this is usually used to draw and record maps, it can also be used to learn to write and recognize characters. Let's begin."
Elor immediately began teaching.
Dorothy quickly got into the zone as well.
During her teaching, Dorothy became even more certain that Elor was a nobleman.
The other party's teaching was simple and easy to understand, and when teaching Dorothy, they guided and encouraged her at the same time, showing a very high level of manners.
Soon, the sky darkened.
While the two were engrossed in their studies, Mary came over carrying an oil lamp.
Mary placed the oil lamp on the table.
"Ladies, it's nighttime. Those rude men might party all night, and they might do some outrageous things when they're drunk. I'm changing shifts now, would you like to stay at my place for the night?"
Dorothy and Elor both looked up and around.
The guild hall was now filled with mercenaries.
Almost every table had a lot of empty wine glasses on it.
Dorothy blinked her slightly sore eyes and said a little embarrassedly, "Um, is this bothering you...?"
Before Dorothy could finish speaking, Mary raised her hand to interrupt her.
"Don't worry about that. My husband is still on a mission and won't be back for a while. It's perfect that you two can come and keep me company."
Dorothy wanted to refuse Mary's invitation.
But then Elor stood up.
"Oh! Really? Thank you so much!" she readily agreed.
Then Elor and Mary looked at Dorothy together.
At this point, Dorothy couldn't refuse outright, so she nodded in agreement.
……
Led by Mary, the three of them left the mercenary guild and went to Mary's house.
Mary pointed to the empty house and said:
"You two can sleep here."
Dorothy looked at the house in front of her; it was very clean.
Mary patted the bed. "This is my room. I'm going to sleep in my son's room. He goes on missions with his dad, and they're rarely home. It's a rare occasion for it to be lively today."
"You two should get some rest. I'll prepare breakfast for you tomorrow." With that, Mary left the room.
Dorothy stood still.
After touching the bed, Elor sat down and began to remove her leather armor.
Looking at Dorothy, who wasn't moving, she asked, "Aren't you going to take your clothes off to sleep?"
Dorothy watched Elor taking off his clothes and felt her face burning. She turned away.
"I'll just sleep like this."
Dorothy placed the basket beside her bed and curled up next to it.
Elor looked at Dorothy's sleeping posture, shook his head slightly, and said nothing more.
As the oil lamp in the room went out, the room became completely dark.
Dorothy lay awake in the darkness, staring at the panel in front of her.
【Loran Common Language LV1 (2/10)】
Today's learning outcomes are already displayed on the panel.
This was only an afternoon. At this rate, I could raise my level to level two in about three days, which would be considered a basic grasp of the language.
Furthermore, this language also allows for the addition of attribute points.
However, Dorothy has no intention of using her attribute points on languages that won't improve her combat power.
So you can spend a few more days continuing to learn from Elor.
Having made this decision in her mind, Dorothy closed her eyes.
Elor, who was sleeping on the other side, was also not asleep. She lay flat on the bed with her hands folded over her abdomen and her breathing even.
"After completing this mission, the points I earn will be enough to raise my mercenary rank from the lowest level, Dust Sand, to Black Iron. This will allow me to accept some combat missions, and also..."
Feeling the magic power slowly gathering within my body.
"My magic power is just a little short of breaking through. After the Winter Festival, I should be able to advance from advanced apprentice to junior mage."
"This trip out for training has definitely been very rewarding!"
"Once I return to the City of Apprentices, I'm sure I'll receive preferential treatment from the academy this time. I'll then use those resources to grow rapidly, and let's see what those old fogies back home can say then!"
Elor steadied herself and continued to refine her magic.
……
The next morning, there was a knock on the door.
Dorothy and Elor opened their eyes at the same time.
Neither of them were sleeping soundly.
As the two stood up, their eyes met.
Dorothy was the first to greet them: "Good morning, thank you for your help today, Elor."
Elor returned a smile. "No trouble at all."
However, it's clearly not appropriate for me to stay at the Mercenary Guild today for my studies.
After having breakfast, the two headed out of town.
I randomly picked a tree to stand under.
Elor took out the sand table and said, "Let's do it here."
Dorothy, of course, had no objections.
The days of studying passed quickly.
Just as Dorothy predicted, her Loran Common Language level improved to LV2 in three days.
It took another five days to upgrade to LV3.
Then the learning officially ends.
During their eight days together, the two stayed at Mary's house.
At the end of the mission, Dorothy left Mary two silver coins as a token of apology for the past few days.
Although Mary hesitated for a moment, Dorothy didn't give her a chance to refuse. She stuffed the silver coin into Mary's hand and turned to leave.
As for Elor, Dorothy guessed that he was a nobleman and knew that the two would not meet again, so she did not try to get close to him.
Dorothy returned home with an irrepressible smile on her face.
She closed the door.
These past few days, Dorothy has been studying with Elor. In order not to expose her little secret, she hasn't practiced her sword skills or taken out her scrolls. She has been holding back.
Only by continuously adding the acquired attribute points to Strength.
Her power level has now reached 23.
Now I'm back home.
"Finally! I can read the words on the scroll!"
