Chapter 4 Trolls
Chapter 4 Trolls
The war of the gods has officially begun with the clash between the two armies.
For gods who have just awakened their divine realm, divine battles between them are often simple and straightforward. After all, their followers are often still in the stage of intellectual awakening, unable to understand too many tactical plans, and lacking the skills and equipment to implement those plans.
At this point, morale becomes the most crucial factor in determining victory or defeat.
The distance between the two sides is rapidly decreasing.
All I could hear was a cacophony of screams. The green dwarves opposite me were pushing and shoving each other, trampling over their companions as they surged forward, like a noisy green tide.
This display of force might have caused ordinary wild beasts to flee in terror, but it was no match for Homo sapiens, who were empowered by faith.
Xin ran at the very front of the group.
This was the first time he had fought for his lord, his chest heaving violently with his heartbeat, his blood roaring throughout his body.
His mission was ordained the moment he first received the fire from God's hands. He was the chosen one, entrusted with the light, and favored. The weight of that mission accompanied him from childhood to adulthood, and now it was finally time to carry it out to the end.
The hunting instinct ingrained deep in their genes was fully awakened.
The distance is less than thirty steps.
In the chaotic goblin horde, one goblin, probably pushed too hard by its companions, stumbled and fell out of formation, waving its broken wooden club and squealing wildly.
Xin abruptly stopped, the grass beneath his feet carving a deep furrow. His calf muscles tensed, his back twisted in response, and using the momentum of running, he swung his right arm in a full semi-circle.
The spear slipped from his hand, tracing an arc through the air.
The stray goblin was pierced through the chest, its body thrown backward by the force, finally pinned to the ground. Dark green blood gushed from the wooden spear, and after twitching twice, it became completely still.
This blood-stained spear ignited the powder keg.
The front ranks of the two armies collided violently.
Xin drew his stone axe from his waist and, with a low growl, cleaved the skull of a goblin that lunged at him. Blood splattered on his face, but he paid no heed. He swung his hand back and grabbed another goblin by the neck, slamming it to the ground. His companion beside him thrust out a spear, relieving the pressure on him.
The battle was unfolding in a one-sided manner.
"Liang Jiu and his family are getting along very well. Although the leader of his family is still at the mortal level, he is already able to shoulder the responsibilities of a leader." The teacher's voice rang out at the right time, and his gaze fell on Xin, who was fighting bloody battles on the battlefield, revealing his appreciation.
"Students, you must remember that in the divine realm, the leader does not necessarily have to be the most powerful in terms of military strength, but must be someone who can command their followers. They are the gods' right and left hands in the divine realm, managing the territory on behalf of the gods and reducing everyone's divine power consumption."
The battle in the divine realm continued. Although Huang Ba's goblins outnumbered Liang Jiuzhiren by more than two, they were unable to open up the battle lines and form an encirclement. Instead, the goblins behind them began to flee in fear, and Huang Ba's divine power gradually depleted, making it insufficient to punish every deserter.
A look of pain flashed across his face, and he had no choice but to take out a bottle of Divine Power Restoration Potion and drink it.
As the divine power slowly returned to Huang Ba's body, although he was still weak, he revealed a sinister smile.
He poured a great deal of divine power into the divine realm. As a result, a fierce wind arose on the battlefield, yellow sand swirled, and clouds blocked out the sunlight.
The goblins were routed even faster due to the changes in the world, and even the primitive humans slowed down their offensive.
Xin chopped down a goblin that was running away with its back to him with one axe stroke. The green-skinned dwarves in front of him were completely routed, only concerned with running away in panic. Logically, it should have been a good time to harvest them.
But he felt uneasy; the changes in the world made his instincts sense the approaching danger.
The ground trembled violently, and a few pebbles at Xin's feet bounced. He squinted, his gaze piercing through the murky sandstorm.
Through the mist, a huge foot covered in mud and bristles stepped onto the earth.
A troll as tall as three men. It had a blue face and fangs, its body bulging with muscles, and it held a wooden club as thick as a man in its hand. It seemed to regard everything on the field as food, about to begin a grand feast.
A goblin, fleeing in panic, was caught off guard and easily snatched by the troll, tossed into its gaping maw.
"Crunch."
Its flesh and bones were shattered, and half of its green limb fell from the corner of its mouth, landing in the muddy water.
Xin involuntarily took a half step back and gripped the stone axe in his hand tightly.
Behind the troll, the mist churned once more, and five equally tall, terrifying silhouettes, each dragging a heavy club, slowly emerged from the shadows.
"The use of divine power is crucial in the war of gods. Huang Ba has already shown us the most important part, which is to gain an advantage by changing the battlefield environment. However, Liang Jiu deliberately held back his divine power beforehand, presumably because he did his homework and knew that the trolls were afraid of light. Next, the battlefield of the gods and the battlefield of their followers will begin their final division."
So they really did release the trolls after all?
From high above, Liang Jiu watched the six colossal creatures enter the battlefield. Although he was somewhat prepared, he hadn't expected the enemy to send out so many at once. He shifted his gaze from the battlefield below to Huang Ba, who was also high in the sky, and met his maniacal laughter.
Do you think the situation is already settled? My divine power hasn't run out yet, and how many bottles of recovery potion do you have left?
Following Liang Jiu's will, divine power gathered in the air, forming a giant hand that seemed to lift the sky, as if to part the clouds and reveal the sun.
Huang Ba was not going to let him have his way. The two forces clashed and struggled in the sky, creating waves of air.
Liang Jiu's control over his divine power was exquisite, allowing him to deflect a great force with minimal effort, yet he was unable to defeat him in a short period of time.
On the battlefield below, screams had drowned out the sound of the wind.
Xin watched helplessly as his two strong brethren roared and charged toward the leading troll. But the monster merely swung its club, and the two were sent flying like rag dolls, crashing heavily to the ground, their bodies twisted into strange shapes.
Another troll bent down, its massive hand gripping the body of one of its brethren. It grinned, and with a sudden burst of strength, the man was split in two. Warm blood mixed with entrails splattered all over the ground, but the troll, unconcerned, grabbed one half and stuffed it into its gaping maw to chew.
Rage overwhelmed his reason, and Xin's eyes turned bloodshot. He let out a roar and charged recklessly at the monster that was feeding.
His mind was filled with murderous intent, so much so that he completely failed to notice the attack from the side.
As shadows fell, another troll's club came crashing down on him.
Xin was thrown backward uncontrollably, his back slamming heavily against a protruding rock.
My vision went dark for a moment, and a metallic sweetness rose from deep in my throat.
The pain was excruciating; it felt as if all my internal organs had shifted.
He was breathing heavily, trying to focus his vision.
The troll that had sent him flying didn't give chase. Instead, it stopped, a mocking smile creeping across its rough, ugly face. It seemed to be enjoying its prey's death throes, its eyes full of amusement, before slowly approaching him.
Only at this moment did Xin truly understand.
The enemies before them were not some uncivilized beasts. They were cunning, cruel, incredibly strong, and capable of cooperating with one another.
The earth trembled slightly under the troll's footsteps, and the oppressive feeling drew ever closer.
Xin gritted his teeth, stood up, propped himself up on one side, and then dug the fallen stone axe out of the mud.
