Half-conscious and disoriented, Miko became aware of a violent, throbbing pain in her head — as though something had come down hard on it.

But when she instinctively tried to bring her hand up to cradle her head, she found she couldn't move it. Something was wound tightly around her wrists, binding them in place. That one wrong sensation was enough to snap her eyes open — and what she saw was a completely unfamiliar environment.

Iron bars stood before her. The surroundings had the look and feel of a cave. The question surfaced in her mind almost on its own.

Miko turned back to her, hoping to rouse her. Whatever the situation, the first order of business was to get Lumine awake. Two heads thinking together had to be better than one person struggling alone against whatever was binding them — whatever it was, she couldn't break free of it at all.

As though the sound of Miko's voice had reached her, Lumine responded with a drowsy murmur.

"Wake up, Lumine — come on, no more sleeping."

Seeing a reaction, Miko kept calling to her.

"Wake up..."

Repeating the words back under her breath, Lumine finally began to open her eyes.

"Huh? We're both tied up?! Was it Kaito?" Lumine's voice came out in a startled exclamation as the reality of her own bound wrists finally registered.

The question, however, left Miko momentarily blank.

What kind of strange games has this girl been playing with Kaito...??

She'd always been quietly curious about what exactly Kaito got up to with the people around him — and right now, that curiosity surged to the surface without warning. If not for their current predicament, she genuinely would have sat Lumine down for a proper conversation about it.

But there was no time for that. Clearly.

"It's Mobius!"

Past her initial bafflement, Miko set the record straight.

"Right — how did I blank on that."

The name was all it took for Lumine to recall everything. "So we need to—"

Lumine stared at Miko's thoroughly puzzled face and found herself equally puzzled. If it hadn't been Miko, then whose voice was that?

"It's Mobius!" This time Miko caught on.

Mobius had taken on her appearance earlier — using her voice now was perfectly consistent with that.

"Ready to sleep?" The voice in Miko's exact timbre rang out again.

And this time, using the sound as a guide, Miko pinpointed the source. It was coming from behind them.

Since only their hands were bound, both of them could still turn around.
