Chapter 579 - 579: Why Is It Always Like This???

All right.Time to go fill Ningguang in on the situation...

After watching the others disappear through the doors of Wangsheng Funeral Parlor, Keqing turned and made her way toward the Jade Chamber to brief Ningguang on everything she'd learned.

— Wangsheng Funeral Parlor. —

So the Jade Balance has already left.

But why had she been hiding and eavesdropping in the first place?

Couldn't she have just come out directly?

Glancing toward the entrance of Wangsheng Funeral Parlor as she waited for Zhongli to appear, Miko couldn't help but let the thought cross her mind.

The truth was, she had already noticed Keqing back then — but she'd chosen not to say anything. And more importantly, at that moment what she'd cared about far more was learning whatever she could about Kaito and Mobius. That was what truly mattered.

While Miko was still turning this over in her mind, Childe glanced casually — as though it meant nothing at all — toward Miko and then toward the entrance.

Looks like Lady Miko was also aware that the Jade Balance was lurking nearby...

I have a feeling the Jade Balance probably suspects me...

Ugh...

He let out a quiet, private sigh. Childe had to admit — he'd really made a mess of things this time around.

None of it had been particularly complicated. And yet somehow he'd still managed to arrive at this result. It was genuinely maddening.

He didn't know why, but it seemed like every single time Kaito was involved, no matter what he was doing, everything inevitably went sideways.

What was that about, exactly?

Was it just a coincidence?

The thought sent him into a quiet spiral of brooding.

What could he do — this had happened enough times now that he genuinely couldn't brush it off. It was driving him up the wall.

Tap, tap, tap —

Just then, the sound of approaching footsteps reached him. Mr. Zhongli had come out.

Mr. Zhongli...

You have to know where Kaito's friend is right now. You just have to...

Shaking himself out of his thoughts, Childe turned to watch Mr. Zhongli make his unhurried approach — and couldn't help but think it, helpless as he felt.

— Jade Chamber. —

"Ningguang!" The moment Keqing stepped into the room, she called out Ningguang's name directly.

"Hm? What is it?"

Ningguang, who had been bent over her desk working, looked up at the sound of Keqing's voice.

Before Keqing could say anything more, Ningguang had already risen from her seat and was walking toward her.

"Is this about Mobius?" As far as Ningguang could see, the only thing that would bring Keqing here looking like this right now was something to do with Mobius.

She was curious — what had happened this time?

Had Mobius made a move? Or was it something else entirely?

"That's right — and it involves the Fatui as well." Under Ningguang's steady gaze, Keqing recounted everything that had just transpired.

Childe of the Fatui already knew about this?

And Mobius was the one who told him...

"Why him, of all people?"

Turning the question over in her mind, Ningguang murmured it half to herself.

"Obviously because the two of them are in cahoots." Keqing answered Ningguang's musing with absolute certainty.

When you had a Fatui Executive on one side and some dangerous unknown entity from who-knew-where on the other, it was only natural they'd end up working together — no matter how you looked at it.

"We don't have any evidence yet."

Ningguang herself thought the possibility was very real — but the fact remained that neither of them had anything concrete to go on. Even without Keqing spelling it out, it was clear from everything she'd just described.

"So we're just going to sit back and watch?" Keqing clearly had no intention of doing any such thing.

"Of course not." Ningguang shook her head and moved toward the exit, continuing as she walked: "For now, go and put the Millelith on full combat readiness. Have them prepared to respond to anything that might happen at a moment's notice."

"And what about Childe?"

Keqing still wanted to bring someone in. She knew it wouldn't be easy — but she couldn't just stand by and let him keep collaborating with Mobius unchecked.

"Childe isn't the priority right now — Mobius is. We'll deal with him later."

Seeing that Keqing's thoughts were still on Childe, Ningguang said so plainly.

Because at this point, things were becoming clear: Mobius was about to make her move. Whether or not Childe was working with her was, for the moment, beside the point.

Granted, the Millelith couldn't actually do much against someone like Mobius — but they still had to mobilize. That was simply what you did.

"All right." Keqing conceded, though with a trace of reluctance.

Still, she couldn't resist adding: "Though even the Millelith won't be able to stop Mobius. It feels like we'd need Rex Lapis himself to step in."

She'd always believed in the power of people — in human solutions to human problems — and the era they lived in now was proof of that. But even Keqing had to acknowledge: the situation they were facing was simply beyond what any of them could handle on their own.

"Rex Lapis will not stand by and do nothing."

Ningguang said it calmly, without elaboration.

She knew perfectly well that the Millelith were no match for Mobius — but that changed nothing. They had to stand up and step forward, the same as they always had. The same as they had done in ages past.

And the Qixing, of course, would do the same.

"Is that what they call rising from the grave?"

Keqing muttered it to herself, and then headed off to rally the Millelith.

Ningguang was right — things could escalate at any moment now, and they had to be ready.

"That would be called a divine manifestation."

Watching Keqing's retreating figure, Ningguang allowed herself a small smile.

— Wangsheng Funeral Parlor. —

"Ah? Mr. Zhongli... you don't know where Kaito's friend is either?"

After hearing Mr. Zhongli's answer, Childe stood there, momentarily struck dumb.

Because if that was the case — then nobody knew where Kaito was right now. Nobody except Kaito himself.

In other circumstances, something like this wouldn't have been such a big deal. But right now, it was deeply inconvenient.

Ugh...

Why does it always end up like this???

Inwardly, Childe couldn't help but cry out in frustration.

He just didn't understand — why was it that no matter what he tried, nothing ever seemed to go right? What on earth was going on?

Could it be that Miss Mobius and Kaito were somehow conspiring against him?

He was spiraling now, throwing the thought out there in sheer desperation — and he knew perfectly well it was impossible. And yet, when things kept going wrong like this, he genuinely couldn't stop himself from thinking it.

"Indeed, that is the case — this young friend Kaito did not inform me of his plans." Under the collective gaze of Childe and the others, Zhongli gave a slow, measured nod.

"In that case, Mr. Zhongli — could you help us find out where Kaito is right now?"

It was Miko who offered a solution.

Find Kaito?

Right, right, right...

They could ask Mr. Zhongli to help track down where Kaito had gone...

That should be fine, surely...

The moment Miko said it, Childe felt hope kindle inside him all over again.

"That... I can try."

After a moment's consideration, Zhongli gave a nod.

Then He continued: "Though I cannot guarantee I will be able to locate young Kaito."

"That's fine — please, just give it a try."

Worried that Zhongli might abandon the attempt before he'd even begun, Childe was quick to say so.
